Talsi Old Town
Kurzeme
Listen to the landscape

Nature has been generous to Talsi, the town on nine hills, endowing it with beautiful views. Talsi is built across a hollow, with Talsi Lake at the southern end and Vilkumuiža Lake at the northern end. The old town has established itself between the lakes, and emanates romantic small town charm. The townscape is embellished by the Talsi Lutheran Church, located on top of Baznīckalns. From Baznīckalns, a stairway leads to Lielā iela, featuring most of the city’s historic two- and three-storey buildings with the ridged roofs characteristic of Talsi.

  • All nine Talsi hills have evocative names reflecting their location – Tiguļi, Krievrags, Leči, Vilkmuiža, function – Castle, Church, Mill, or more poetically, King’s, Sun.
  • Tiguļkalns, opposite the old town, is a fine feature of the landscape and home to Villa Hochheim, the townhouse built by Baron von Fircks at the end of the 19th century, now home to the Talsi Regional Museum.
