About project

By naming the places and landscapes that are national treasures, as well as places and landscapes in regions, districts, parishes, a repository of Latvian landscape treasures would be created over time. * * from Latvia’s Landscape Eras, Energy and the World, 2016 / 3 Aija Melluma, Dr. habil geogr. To encourage all of us to take the time to really see landscapes and jointly identify Latvia’s landscape treasures, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, in partnership with the Planning Regions and the National Library of Latvia, are implementing the project A Gift to Latvia – an electronic repository of landscape treasures: Latvia’s Landscape Treasures Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. The newly created electronic repository is an extension to the National Library of Latvia digital library collection Zudusī Latvija (Lost Latvia). 50 Latvian landscape treasures have been selected with the help of the residents of Latvia and landscape experts. They can be seen at the exhibition, in the slide show and repository of landscape treasures www.ainavudargumi.lv. Each of Latvia’s five planning regions is characterised by ten landscape treasures
