St Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church in Pasiene
Latgale
Listen to the landscape

Pasiene’s St Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church is a baroque art and architectural monument. In 1694, a wooden church was built in Pasiene under the guidance of Dominican monks, but was destroyed by fire in 1753. The church was rebuilt in 1761 with the financial support of Polish Crown Chancellor Johann von der Borch in 1761, together with a monastery for the Order of Preachers. The church has undergone few changes, maintaining its late (Polish) baroque style with rococo elements. Visitors can view the central altar with finely-drawn architectural details and pulpit.

  • The main altar is made of stucco and takes up most of the chancel, it features a grandiose two-tier reredos and two altars.
  • The church organ is considered one of the oldest in Latvia.
  • 26 April is special day for the Pasiene congregation, celebrating the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Our Lady of Good Counsel.
