The Lake Sauka vicinity with the Sēljia moraine and Ormaņkalns (Carter’s Hill) are part of the Sauka Nature Park, established in 1987. The park also includes the Klauce, Bukūzis and Aklais Lakes. The hilly terrain is rich in water resources. The 12-metre-high Sauka castle mound, or Dievkalniņš (God’s Hill) sits at the eastern end of Lake Sauka, the Klauce river flows into the north-eastern corner of the lake, while Dūņupe (Muddy river), a tributary of the Dienvidsusēja, flows out at the western end. The slopes surrounding the lake are very different – steep in the east and north, but near Dūņupe and the Klauce they are gentle, frequently tree- and shrub-covered.
